Weston Town Hall, Weston-super-Mare
Client: North Somerset Council
Value: £9.7 million
Duration: 2010 – 2012
The project involved the complete refurbishment of the existing Weston Town Hall to provide a contemporary and more sustainable building environment for North Somerset Council staff and members of the public. The works were procured through Scape using Willmott Dixon as part of the Council’s Estate Strategy for rationalisation of their existing property portfolio.
The refurbishment delivers improved disabled access and a range of enhanced facilities including the relocated Weston Library, new Gateway Services, and Council payment kiosks.
Three upper floors of open-plan office space are organised around a new atrium formed by the introduction of a new roof and clerestory over the former lightwell. Improvements to the building’s fabric and services have ensured that the building is more cost-effective to run and will reduce CO2 emissions by 61% while achieving an EPC A rating.
