Clifton Suspension Bridge Visitor Centre
Client: Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust
Duration: 2006 – 2014
AFA were commissioned to design a new Visitor Centre and Operations building to enhance the visitor experience and provide purpose built workshops and offices for the on-going maintenance of this iconic structure.
The Visitor Centre comprises a large double height exhibition space with a framed view along the bridge, an education room and visitor WC facilities.
The centre also provides a centre managers office with a copper bay window and kitchen space to provide for private events and school visits.
The Operations building delivers new office space for The Trust and Bridge Master while also providing much needed ground floor storage and workshop areas.
Access to the yard area connecting these two buildings is through a beautiful set of bespoke gates set within the restored historic wall forming the site boundary. The Visitor Centre follows this curved line and lifts visitors up to a perfect framed view of the Bridge itself, the star attraction of the exhibition within.
