Springfield Community Campus

Client: Wiltshire Council

Value: £7.8

Duration:  2012 – 2015

Springfield Community Campus was developed by Wiltshire Council to improve the delivery of local public services.

The development created a large extension to the existing centre and includes a library, crèche, café, climbing wall, multi-purpose spaces, ‘Young Persons’ facilities, a neighbourhood police team, Wiltshire offices, Learning Disability Day Centre and reception.   The two storey extension was built from structural cross-laminated timber and clad in a mixture of terracotta tiles, insulated render and metal cladding. The existing leisure facilities were also refurbished and included new changing rooms, spa facilities and an extension to the fitness suites.

The Campus achieves 40% CO2 emission reductions, primarily through passive systems such as thermally efficient envelope, natural daylighting and naturally ventilated spaces.  Heating is provided through a biomass boiler and the Campus also benefits from a photo-voltaic array.

Landscaping around the Campus includes a new all-weather pitch, children’s play park, multi-use terraces, carparks and public entrance plaza for outdoor events.
