John Foster’s Almshouse consists of 18 self contained flats for older people, the John Milton Clinic for the Bristol Primary Care Trust on part of the ground floor, and associated external works.

The accommodation replaces that provided within the Victorian almshouses located on Colston Street, at the top of Christmas Steps in central Bristol, originally founded in the late fifteenth century by John Foster.

The flats have been specifically designed to meet the needs of older poor people and include complete wheelchair access to all rooms, assistive technology ensuring the personal safety and security of residents, energy saving technologies, and sustainable materials.
