The Kingfisher School in St. Anne’s Bristol has now been submitted for planning approval
The Kingfisher School in St. Anne’s Bristol has now been submitted for planning approval. With planning consent, works are due to commence on site in Autumn 2016.
Alec French Architects have been appointed by Kier Construction Ltd on behalf of the Education Funding Agency (EFA) and Bristol City Council (BCC) to design a new school and Children’s Centre on the site of the existing school on Lichfield Road, St Anne’s.
Pupil projections generated by BCC identified a short fall in primary places in the Brislington Ward from 2016 onwards and as part of the Priority Schools Building Programme, The Kingfisher School was identified as a school in need of urgent repair. Due to the poor condition of the existing building, works will involve a complete replacement of existing buildings with a new build primary school for 420 pupils, 26 nursery places and a Children’s Centre with 40 places.
Proposals have been developed to redesign and develop new accommodation for the Children’s Centre creating a purpose built community centre at the heart of the community. This also includes a review of the outside spaces to provide better sporting facilities and a library/education centre to be used not only by the school and Children’s Centre but by the wider community of St Anne’s Park out of school hours.
The designs have been carefully discussed with the school and Children’s Centre in order to establish the optimum set of room adjacencies for their needs and for the wider community.
